Five Reasons Why You Can’t Miss the Reedy River Duck Derby

Every year in South Carolina, the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening raises money for charity in a most unique way: duck racing. During the 14th annual charity race on May 5, 2018, thousands of rubber ducks will race down the Reedy River in scenic downtown Greenville. The winning ducks will earn fantastic prizes, and 100 percent of the day’s proceeds will go to local charities. If you’ve never been, it’s a sight you don’t want to miss. That’s why, as the Derby’s proud Champion Duck sponsor, we’re sharing all of the reasons you should attend this year’s event.

Here are House of Raeford Farms’ top five reasons why you won’t want to miss the 2018 Reedy River Duck Derby.

1. It’s a fun day for the whole family.

There are thousands of rubber ducks racing down a river. Usually, that’s enough said. But just in case it’s not, the event takes place right in the heart of downtown Greenville in scenic Falls Park. Downtown Greenville was recently ranked one of the Top 10 best downtowns in the country and features over 100 shops and dining venues.

In addition to the drive-worthy location, the Duck Derby will also feature local food vendors, family-friendly activities and live performances by local musicians. Family members of all ages are sure to find an activity they’ll enjoy.

2. It’s for a good cause.

In the past, the Rotary of Club of Greenville Evening has donated proceeds to the Mauldin Miracle League, EarlyAct FirstKnight and the Greenville Area Interfaith Hospitality Network, among others. So, you can feel good about the money you’re putting toward your duck.

3. You get to adopt a duck.

Yes, you read that right. If you sign up ahead of time, you’ll purchase adoption papers for your duck and get your corresponding tracking number. So even if you don’t win, you’ll have a friend for life.

A single duck sponsorship is $10 and a four-duck “Super Quack Pack” is $30.

4. There are cash prizes.

If your duck makes its way over the falls and through a chute at the bottom before any other yellow rubber duckers, you’ll win $75 a week in groceries for a year from Publix. There’s even a chance to take home $1 million. Second place wins $1,500 in cash and third place gets an all-expenses paid golf weekend at Embassy Suites.

This year, there’s another chance to earn some cash thanks to the new Duck Derby Hat Contest. If you come to the derby wearing a duck hat, you’ll be entered to win a cash prize from Locally Epic. You’ll have to register your entry on the Locally Epic website ahead of time for a chance to participate.

5. You’ll get to see up to 10,000 rubber ducks racing down a river.

Where else will you get to see a swarm of yellow ducks rolling down the Reedy River and over the falls? Nowhere else. Take a look at some of the pictures from last year and see if that doesn’t tickle your fancy.

From all of us at House of Raeford, we hope to see you at the 2018 Reedy River Duck Derby on May 5. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is sure to be the most fun you’ll have all day.
